Location And Surrounding Corridors
Brookview Heights sits in Northwest Atlanta just inside the Interstate 285 Perimeter loop. The neighborhood borders Carey Park to the west of James Jackson Parkway, which forms a central roadway through the area. Primary automotive access to the neighborhood centers around the intersection of James Jackson Parkway and Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway. Historically, Brookview Heights and adjacent Monroe Heights were recognized together as the Watts Road neighborhood. Administratively, Brookview Heights is organized within Atlanta's Council District 9 and Neighborhood Planning Unit G. Segments of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and James B. Jackson Parkway anchor the surrounding grid, connecting Brookview Heights to surrounding districts.
Bowen Choice Neighborhood Transformation
The neighborhood includes the 74-acre footprint of the former Bowen Homes complex, which was originally built in 1964 and demolished in 2009. In partnership with HUD, Atlanta Housing created a Neighborhood Transformation Plan to guide the revitalization of Brookview Heights and the former Bowen Homes property. The master plan outlines the addition of more than 2,000 rental and homeownership units across the community. Development initiatives also incorporate an upgraded street network designed to improve local connectivity. In addition to housing, the revitalization introduces retail spaces, community amenities, and an Innovation Hub offering job training opportunities. Environmental infrastructure is central to the project, integrating improved greenspace acreage and a green stormwater management system across the area.
Phased Redevelopment And Community Amenities
Redevelopment in Brookview Heights commenced with a $63. 6-million initial phase delivering 151 apartment units. This initial phase sets aside 48 units for households earning 30 percent of the area median income, 49 units capped at 60 percent AMI, and remaining units at market rate. A development team consisting of McCormack Baron Salazar, The Benoit Group, Coleman and Associates, and JG Consulting was selected to direct master redevelopment efforts. Community facilities planned for the neighborhood include a dedicated Community Resources Center. The ongoing investment is designed to transform the area into a hub of natural, social, and economic regeneration. Preserving the natural environment remains an ongoing priority as new mixed-income buildings and parks take shape across Brookview Heights.
