Neighborhood Geography And Surroundings
Greenbriar sits just inside the Interstate 285 Perimeter in southwestern Atlanta's 30331 zip code. Langford Parkway marks the northern edge of the community, dividing it from Atlanta's Southwest neighborhood. Directly to the west across the Perimeter lies Ben Hill Forest, while East Point forms the eastern and southern borders. The corridor is oriented around primary roadways including Greenbriar Parkway and Campbellton Road. Residents in the area have access to regional nature and recreational spaces such as Cascade Springs Nature Preserve and the Atlanta BeltLine Southwest Connector Spur Trail.
Commercial Legacy And Greenbriar Mall
The centerpiece of the district is Greenbriar Mall, situated at 2841 Greenbriar Parkway SW. Designed by architect John Portman, the landmark opened in September 1965 as one of Atlanta's first enclosed, air-conditioned shopping centers and the birthplace of the modern food court. In 1967, local restaurateur S. Truett Cathy opened the very first mall-based Chick-fil-A location inside Greenbriar Mall. The commercial hub has expanded to include nearby retail centers like Greenbriar Marketplace and Greenbriar Crossing. The City of Atlanta and Sizemore Group have also created the Greenbriar LCI master plan to re-envision the mall area into a mixed-use transit-oriented center.
Transit Infrastructure And Creative Hubs
Greenbriar functions as an active entertainment hub in southwest Atlanta with deep ties to the film and music industries. In 2008, Tyler Perry opened a 30-acre Tyler Perry Studios complex on Greenbriar Parkway, a site that later became Areu Studios. The neighborhood also houses music recording businesses, including Stack Em Entertainment, Hood South Studios, and Dirty Music. For transit, the community is serviced by MARTA bus lines, with Campbellton Road designated as a high-capacity transit corridor. Nearby MARTA rail stops serving the broader area include Oakland City, Lakewood/Ft McPherson, East Point, and College Park.
