History And Community Planning
Hanover West was originally established in 1960 when Dean Spratlin developed property formerly owned by the Hyde family. Original blueprints envisioned a sister community called Hanover East on the east side of Bohler Road, directly opposite the Hanover West entrance. The planned eastern parcel was instead developed in 1965 by Tom Cousins with Rockefeller financing and a Bartholome design, creating the neighboring Cross Creek community. Benny Irvin and the Hanover West Civic Association Committee successfully had that proposed adjacent site designated as a floodplain. This civic effort prompted developer Cousins to relocate the main entrance to Cross Creek further up Bohler Road rather than directly facing Hanover West. Today, the Hanover West Neighborhood Association maintains this tradition of local engagement through organized events and its neighborhood Garden Club.
Residential Terrain And Architecture
Hanover West occupies a scenic, wooded setting nestled along Peachtree Creek in zip code 30327. Midcentury residential properties rest on generous, canopy-covered lots framed by mature trees along thoroughfares like Christophers Walk NW. A significant portion of Hanover West lies within the natural floodplain of Peachtree Creek. To navigate this local terrain, homebuilders have historically adapted properties by raising the architecture on ground floors. Architectures in the community include classic styles such as Williamsburg-style colonial residences. With around 100 homes in total, properties in this tucked-away community do not enter the real estate market frequently.
Local Amenities And Road Connections
The Hanover West Club serves as a central hub for residents, providing swimming pool and tennis facilities in the middle of the neighborhood. The swim grounds feature a pool equipped with a diving board, a grilling area, a covered porch, and an outdoor playground. Seasonal pool operations run from late May to early September, accommodating daily summer hours alongside competitive swim team meets. For daily travel, Bohler Road provides direct access southward to dining, urban retailers, and home decorating boutiques. Nearby commercial destinations can be reached quickly along Collier Road, Defoors Ferry Road, Chattahoochee Avenue, and at the Westside Provisions District. Residents also enjoy immediate proximity to the adjacent Cross Creek Golf Club and highway connections along Interstate 75.
